Institute for Disability Studies
Our Services
Page Content
IDS is dedicated to enhancing the lives of individuals with disabilities across Mississippi through a comprehensive range of services. Our work spans three core areas: Education, Community Living, and Family Engagement. Each program is designed to empower individuals, support families, and strengthen community supports through training, technical assistance, advocacy, research, and direct services.
Education
Our education programs are designed to support individuals with disabilities across the lifespan from early intervention (birth to age 3) through post-secondary education and into
adulthood (ages 3–21+). We aim to create inclusive, high-quality learning experiences with a focus on community participation and an improved quality of life. Services are tailored for individuals with disabilities, their families, and the professionals who support them.
Community Living
Our community living programs promote independence and meaningful community inclusion that encourage active participation in everyday life. Our services include training and support in areas focused on affordable housing, employment, recreational activities, and volunteerism. These initiatives are designed to foster independence and social inclusion.
Family Engagement
Our family engagement programs empower families of individuals with disabilities by providing advocacy support, resource navigation, and training. We support families in accessing essential services and encourage their active participation in decision-making processes. Our goal is to ensure families are informed, supported, and equipped to advocate effectively.
